Nature

In Stara Sušica, the Centar Velike Zvijeri is located on the old Karolina Road, next to the Frankopan Castle and the Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua. The centre presents facts about bears, wolves and lynxes in a multimedia exhibition. The exhibition extends over two floors. Centar Stara Sušica welcomes visitors and provides visitor education about the heritage of large carnivores in Gorski kotar. The Velike Zvijeri Visitor Centre is also described as a venue offering children’s workshops and guided activities focused on finding and observing the tracks of large predators in their habitat.

Culture

Dvorac Stara Sušica is part of the protected historic complex with the Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua and the surrounding grounds. Dvorac Stara Sušica currently serves as the educational and cultural centre of Dom mladih. The Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua in Stara Sušica dates from 1874. The replacement chapel remains open to visitors; on 13 June, the Feast of Saint Anthony of Padua is celebrated there.

Hiking

The Frankopan Walkway begins in Stara Sušica at a landscaped pond promenade in a coniferous forest. It then continues along the historic Karolina Road, forest paths and meadows. After approximately 2 km, the trail reaches the first houses of Vrh and can be continued towards Javorova Kosa, with a panoramic viewpoint, mountain lodge and the Božji studenac spring. Dvorac Stara Sušica is listed as KT 38 on the Planinarskim putovima Frankopana hiking trail.

Landscape

Dvorac Stara Sušica is located at an altitude of 800 metres above sea level in a centuries-old forest with diverse flora and fauna.
