Maranovići: Hotels and accommodation

Maranovići preserves traditional settlement features of its region and is known for fertile fields and olive groves. The cultural landscape around the village also includes cultivated fields, olive groves and vineyards.

Culture

The former Church of St. Anthony in Maranovići was destroyed by pirates in 1725. The present parish church of St. Anthony was built in 1888 on the site of an older church that had been completely demolished, and preserves Gothic elements associated with the former church. The church is also associated with a late-Renaissance gilded silver chalice with a six-lobed foot dating from the 15th century.

Vrhmljeće, on the hill above Maranovići, is described as one of the oldest Slavic settlements on Mljet and as a place that was historically hidden from pirate attacks. Nearby, at the former Vrhmljeće, are the remains of the Church of St. Mary of the Hill, with a Gothic window and a Romanesque portal. A cemetery with roughly worked stone tomb slabs surrounds the remains.

Landscape

The comparatively intact appearance of Maranovići is described as important to the character of the surrounding area. Maranovići is referred to as a rural cultural landscape. Below the village, a cave is described as a particularly valuable natural site.

Trails

Put Maslina is a historical agricultural hiking trail from Babino Polje to Maranovići. The route runs along olive groves and offers views of the outer part of Mljet and Italy.

Knežev dvor is located on Put Maslina, a 16th-century house that now houses an ethnographic collection. Also located on Put Maslina is Sotnica, a building in which the Benedictines exercised judicial authority until the end of the 15th century. The Odyssey's Cave can be reached from Put Maslina via a short detour.

Put Maslina also offers the opportunity to visit an olive mill and learn about oil production.
