Cuisine

A wine museum is located at Putnikovići 14 in Putniković. The Museum of Viticulture and Viniculture – Putniković is intended as a cultural center and reference point for presenting the viticulture and winemaking traditions of Pelješac. The exhibition on the ground floor covers vineyard preparation, grape processing, wine production, cooperage, transport, and wine sales. On the first floor, an exhibition traces the history of the vine and viticulture – from prehistoric evidence and influences from the Bronze Age as well as the Greek and Roman periods to later developments.

The attic displays traditional crafts and equipment from shellfish farming, fishing, sheep farming, and textile production. The museum offers guided tours in Croatian and English; a large parking area is located in front of the museum building. The museum shop sells bottled Pelješac wine, regional olive oil, selected wine gift packages, and souvenirs. A tasting area allows visitors to experience the traditional gastronomic and oenological heritage of the southern Adriatic coast.

The museum complex includes a replica of a native Dalmatian house. Dom vinarske tradicije contains exhibits and a tasting room within the Putniković winery.

Culture

Putniković has several churches, dating mainly from the 15th to the 17th century. The parish church of Saint Mary Magdalene was built in 1749. The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary contains an embedded Roman stele from the 1st or 2nd century. The Church of Saint Anne is described as a rare Baroque chapel preserved in its original form.

Geographical Location

Putniković is located on County Road 414 between Dubrave and Ponikve. This road connects the village with other larger settlements on Pelješac.
