The parish church of St. Mary Magdalene displays a very old stone element depicting a bearded male head, known as the “Head from Kneginac.” Bauerov bunar in the Banjščina district at Bauerbreg dates from 1784. It is listed in Croatia’s Register of Cultural Heritage as an immovable individual cultural asset under the designation Z-442; there is also an information board at Bauerov bunar.
Andrijina kula Kehne is associated with the medieval fortress “Kneginec” near Varaždin, where Duke Andrija was held captive until the death of his brother Emerik in 1204.
On the road
The Toplička cycling route from Varaždin to Varaždinske Toplice runs through the municipality of Gornji Kneginec and connects to the Drava Route. The route has continuous bicycle signage and designated points of special interest.
Nature
The “Šumska pješačka avantura” is a network of hiking trails through the Varaždin Breg forest area. The trails are 6,730 meters long in total and are described as suitable for all age groups, from families with children to experienced hikers. The “Šumska pješačka avantura” project includes the three municipalities of Gornji Kneginec, Sveti Ilija, and Beretinec.
