Prugovo was first recorded in 1397 in a list of the villages of the Klis district. The former parish church of Saint Anthony stood at the present-day cemetery; in 1709, it was recorded as a newly built church covered with roof tiles. The former Church of Saint Anthony was built before 1704.
The old church was demolished in 1881 after the new church had been built; the chapel remained as a cemetery chapel. The present church is a stone building with neo-Romanesque elements and a Latin cross-shaped floor plan. Its exterior features hanging arches, a tympanum, three windows with semicircular tops, a façade clock, a pentagonal apse, and a stone bell tower.
In 1994, local artists Petar, Vlado, and Andrija Jakelić decorated the church with paintings. One of the church paintings depicts the Virgin Mary above a panorama of Prugovo with a Croatian soldier.
