Culture

The family home in Krivodol was the birthplace of Ivan Ujević, the father of Tin Ujević and one of the first teachers from the Imotski region. Tin Ujević stayed there during his school years in Imotski and during his “one hundred days in Imotski and Krivodol”.

Krivodol is represented in the Udruga Ujević network of educational routes by routes or stations entitled Krivodol–Trg svetog Mihovila, Krivodol–OŠ „Tin Ujević“, Krivodol–Turići and Krivodol–Đirada. T4 Krivodol – the family home is a station on the Ujević educational route.

In 2015, a stone portrait of Tin Ujević created by Stipan Kujundžić was installed at the school in Krivodol. The first bust of Tin Ujević at the school was created in 1977 and was later stolen. Fra Ćiro Ujević was born in Krivodol on 8 May 1902 and served in Imotski from 1937 to 1949 as parish priest, guardian and archpriest.

Ante Ujević was born in Krivodol in 1924. He founded the magazine Sjemenarstvo and was its first editor. Petar Ujević was born in Krivodol in 1960 and created a series of sculptures for public spaces.

St. Michael’s Square in Krivodol is associated with a chapel built in 1779, a Tin Ujević sculpture carved from Imotski stone, and the poetry evenings held there every August since 2011.

Nature

Sumbulova gradina in Lokvičići is about 1.5 kilometres from Krivodol in the direction of Split; from there, broad views extend across Imotsko polje and the surrounding karst lakes. The view from Sumbulova gradina inspired many of the verses in Tin Ujević’s “Uspavanka iz Krivodola”.

Đirada is a crossroads leading towards the fields through Čujići. From there, there are further options for reaching Imotski: through the fields or along the main road through Grubine.

History

Archaeological work at Gusići I uncovered two intact stone cist graves. A C14 analysis dated one grave at Gusići I to the first half of the second millennium BC, between 1950 and 1650 BC. Gusići I is a named cairn in the area of Krivodol near Trilj. Gusići II contains three intact stone cist graves.

Kukina gomila in the Gilići-Kuko hamlet of Krivodol is a cairn with a diameter of about 30 metres and a height of 3–4 metres.
