Polubný: Hotels and accommodations

Polubný combines sacred cultural history, railways, and winter sports. The specific sites and facilities range from a Baroque church and a historic cog railway to two groomed cross-country ski trails leading from Kořenov to Jizerka; one of them runs via Horní Polubný, and the trails connect to the Jizerská magistrála.

Culture

The Baroque Church of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist in Horní Polubný was built between 1789 and 1793. Regular services and cultural events, especially concerts of classical and sacred music, are held there. The church can be reached by bus to the Horní Polubný stop, by train to Kořenov, and then on foot or by car.

The history of the locality is also connected with various craft and forestry activities. In the 19th century, the inhabitants of Polubný made their living, among other things, from forestry work, spinning, weaving, glassblowing and glass pressing, as well as the production of potash.

A defining detail of the history of technology is the Tanvald–Kořenov cog railway line. It is the steepest railway line in the Czech Republic. On the section between Dolní Polubný and Kořenov, the maximum gradient is 58 per mille. In 1992, the line was declared a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.

In the wider regional surroundings of Polubný are several historic sites: Zamek Chojnik, Zamek Gryf, and Czocha - Zamek XIVw. are castles, while Spalona Strażnica lies in ruins.

Winter

The Jizerský kopec ski lift is located in Horní Polubný on the left-hand side of the road towards Kořenov, approximately 50 metres above the road.

Jizerka can be reached by car exclusively from Horní Polubný. Two groomed cross-country ski trails lead from Kořenov to Jizerka; one of them runs via Horní Polubný, and the trails connect to the Jizerská magistrála.

Geographical location

In the immediate vicinity of Polubný are Zámky, Slezské Kamení, Hvězda, and Mariánská hora; all four are mountains.
