Culture and History
The Tanvald–Kořenov–Harrachov line is the steepest railway line in the Czech Republic. The Kořenov Railway Museum displays historical railway exhibits, photographic documentation and technical equipment related to the operation of the rack railway. It is accessible from the platform in the right-hand section of the former Kořenov railway station building. Rides on historic railcars offer insights into the work of the engine driver and information about the Tanvald–Kořenov–Harrachov line.
Jizerka, a district of Kořenov, has been a village heritage reserve since 1995. The old schoolhouse in Jizerka houses a museum dedicated to the history and natural wealth of Jizerka and the Jizera Mountains.
Landscape and Trails
Štěpánka is the oldest lookout tower in the Jizera Mountains. From Štěpánka, views extend across the western Krkonoše Mountains, the surroundings of the Souš Reservoir, Mount Jizera and the valleys of the Desná and Kamenice rivers. From the centre of Kořenov, the lookout tower can be reached by pedestrians and cyclists via a blue and then a green hiking trail over a distance of approximately 2 km.
The Maják Járy Cimrmana lookout tower is a wooden structure and is directly accessible from the Cimrman's Age Museum.
Nature and Activities
Jizerka offers opportunities for hiking, mountain biking and cross-country skiing in winter.
Architecture
The TesaĹ™ovská Chapel is an octagonal evangelical prayer house dating from 1909. Its distinctive octagonal architecture makes it one of the most interesting religious buildings in the area. The exterior of the chapel is freely accessible year-round; the interior can be visited during events or by arrangement with the owner, the OchranovskĂ˝ sbor pĹ™i ÄŚeskobratrskĂ© cĂrkvi evangelickĂ© v TurnovÄ›.
