Poniklá: Hotels and accommodations

Rautis in Poniklá preserves and develops the traditional art of pearl making. The technique of blowing glass beads and making beaded Christmas decorations was added to UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2020. The parish church Farní kostel sv. Jakuba Staršího, apoštola, is a Baroque landmark and was consecrated in 1682. It houses a painting by the artist Nejedlý, which was restored in 1996 by restorers from Litomyšl.

Culture and crafts

The Muzeum krkonošských řemesel in Poniklá displays around 700 exhibits, most of which come from Poniklá and the surrounding area. The exhibition includes an agricultural presentation as well as traditional methods of flax processing, washing and ironing, butter making, shoemaking and furniture making. Every summer, courses organized by the Vzdělávací spolek uměleckých řemesel bring traditional skills such as basket weaving, stonemasonry and blacksmithing to life in the museum.

Poniklá’s architectural heritage includes dozens of preserved buildings featuring rural log-house architecture with richly carved gables. Krejčův statek is considered the largest farmstead complex in Poniklá.

Nature and trails

The Ponikelská jeskyně in Poniklá comprises chambers decorated with stalactites and underground lakes; its passages are approximately 240 meters long. Numerous walking routes, trails and paths to natural and cultural monuments, viewpoints and picturesque places run through Poniklá and its surroundings. They can be explored on foot, by bicycle and, in winter, on skis.

The mountains of Strážník, Zadní Žalý, Přední Žalý and Šeřín are located in the vicinity of Poniklá.
