In Přeštice, the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary dominates the cityscape as a landmark. At the same time, it is the largest Baroque church in the Czech Republic outside Prague.

Culture and history

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was built between 1750 and 1775 according to plans by K. I. Dientzenhofer. Visits are possible by prior arrangement.

The Dům historie Přešticka is dedicated to the region's history of everyday life and crafts. The first floor presents crafts and trades typical of the region. The house also displays historical tools, aids, products and household objects; illustrative demonstrations of traditional craft techniques are also offered.

Educational trail and outdoor activities

The “Se sv. Vojtěchem okolím Přešticka” educational trail was opened on April 26, 2015, at 2 p.m. at the Evangelical parish in Přeštice and has 12 stations. It is suitable for longer walks and cycling trips.

Local traditions

The “Přeštický kanec” event, traditionally held on a Saturday in October in Přeštice's market square, features slaughter festivals, competitions, singing and the sale of meat products.

In the grounds of the former agricultural cooperative on the main road from Přeštice to Klatovy, two ceramic pigs stand on a pedestal; they were created by Jaroslav Podmol.
