Jinonice can be explored through its historical landmarks, distinctive landscape features and public leisure facilities.
History and Culture
The Jinonický dvorec is already mentioned in records from 1088. In 1685, the Jinonický dvorec and the chateau were rebuilt at the expense of Jan Adolf Schwarzenberg; they have retained the character of a late 17th-century early Baroque manor. Archaeological investigations in the grounds of Jinonice Chateau uncovered unusually well-preserved remains of a medieval manor house.
The Butovice fortified settlement was a centre of early medieval settlement in the 8th and 9th centuries. The approximately nine-hectare site lies on a prominent spur above the valley of the Prokopský stream; to the northeast and east, it was protected by two transverse lines of fortifications.
The grounds of the Church of St Lawrence include a cemetery enclosed by a perimeter wall with two gates. In the northern section stands a mortuary chapel projecting beyond the wall. During the Prague Uprising of 1945, Sokolovna Praha Jinonice served as the headquarters of the local command and as the centre of all revolutionary forces.
Landscape and Leisure
Vidoule is one of the natural monuments located in Jinonice. Another green area is Butky Park, a recreational area with events, sports facilities, playgrounds and opportunities for relaxation.
At the skate park in Jinonice on Butovická Street, various elements are available across an area of approximately 500 m² for experienced as well as less advanced riders.
Routes and Transport
The route “Exploring Archaeological and Historical Monuments” leads from the eastern edge of Stodůlky through the Jinonice area to Hlubočepy. It takes approximately three and a half hours and can be explored on foot or by bicycle along walking paths in Prokopské Valley and its immediate surroundings.
The Jinonice interchange area includes access to Metro Line B and Praha-Jinonice railway station.
