Krems: Local Culture, Nature and Bike Tours
Around Křemže, you will find a market square with sacred buildings, protected landscapes and designated bike tours. The local culture is reflected in churches, a chapel and a Stations of the Cross; the natural environment includes a relict pine forest, lichens on a gneiss rock outcrop and flora on serpentinite rock. Two routes of 18.5 and 24 km add specific distances to these themes for day planning.
At the center of Křemže’s market square stands the Church of the Holy Archangel Michael. Bike Tour No. III “Kolem Kleti” also starts from this square and ends after 24 km. The shared starting point is therefore located directly by a sacred building. When planning a day with set breaks, the 24 kilometers can serve as a clear framework; the market square remains the spatial reference point for the start.
Sacred Buildings in Křemže
The Chapel of Saint Ursula stands on the northwestern edge of Křemže. It is a distinctive building. The Church of the Holy Archangel Michael on the market square was built in the pseudo-Gothic style and consecrated on October 23, 1887. A Stations of the Cross with 14 stations from 1860 also originated from the original church. The church and chapel are therefore located in two different places in Křemže.
Dívčí Kámen: Monument and Nature Reserve
The Dívčí Kámen Nature Reserve is one of the largest and best-preserved medieval monuments in the Czech Republic. It protects a relict pine forest. Lichens can be found on a gneiss rock outcrop. Thermophilous plants and endangered insect species are also part of the protected natural assets. A nesting site of the eagle owl is located there. The nature reserve remains accessible to visitors. Nature enthusiasts can focus their observations at the gneiss rock outcrop on lichens and the relict pine forest; thermophilous plants, endangered insect species and the eagle owl’s nesting site are also part of the protected natural assets.
Bořinka and Holubovské hadce
Bořinka is a nature reserve. There is a mineral deposit site there. Holubovské hadce are characterized by flora and vegetation on serpentinite rock. At Bořinka, the protected-area status is combined with the geological theme of minerals, while Holubovské hadce complement it with plant life on serpentinite rock.
Two Bike Tours, Two Distances
Bike Tour No. II “Svatý Vít v Habří” also begins at the market square in Křemže and ends after 18.5 km. At 18.5 km, it is 5.5 km shorter than the 24 km of Bike Tour No. III “Kolem Kleti”. Both routes start at the same market square but differ in their designated length. For a tighter day schedule, the shorter distance is 18.5 km; with more time available for the route, it is 24 km.
