Culture and History

Starý zámek is a picturesque Renaissance building dating from the mid-16th century. It has a triple entrance gate with a still-preserved Gothic-vaulted passageway. The building is privately owned and not open to the public.

Nový zámek is a massive, elongated building in the late Empire style, surrounded by lush parkland. Its construction began in 1696 and was rapidly completed between 1747 and 1754. Nový zámek is not open to the public. Nový Dvůr was built under the Rosenbergs between 1587 and 1590.

The pilgrimage Church of the Name of the Virgin Mary in Lomec was built between 1699 and 1704 by Count Buquoy for a miraculous statue of the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus. It is considered an important work of the High Baroque in Central Europe. The church in Lomec is open daily, allowing visitors to view its interior. Poutní dům Lomec offers individuals and groups overnight accommodation in single and twin rooms.

Landscape and Trails

The Libějovická alej consists predominantly of lime trees and lines the old road connecting the pilgrimage chapel of svaté Máří, Nový zámek in Libějovice and the Lomec pilgrimage centre in the Strakonice District. A blue-marked hiking trail and the Julia Zeyer Trail run through the Libějovická alej. In 2008, the avenue received the title “Strom hrdina”.

Thirty-seven breeding bird species have been recorded in Libějovický park, including five specially protected species.

The Historická krajina Netolicko cycling loop is an approximately 50-kilometre-long educational route with 16 stops and information panels in three languages. The northern section of this route leads into the Libějovicko-Lomecko landscape zone; the municipality of Libějovice, with its two chateaux, is located there.

The Lomecký běh is a running competition on a forest course around Lomec.
