Němětice in the Volyňka Valley

Němětice lies in the Volyňka Valley in the Šumava foothills at the foot of the Bohemian Forest. A wooded ridge with the peaks of Kráva (622 m) and Ostrý vrch (591 m) partly forms the southern side of the Peklov Valley. Hradec is situated on a spur south of the Peklov stream, about 600 metres southeast of the chapel in the village. Hradec-Hradiště near Němětice lies on a spur above the Volyňka and was settled during the Iron Age and the hillfort period. The different names help distinguish the two local references. The river valley, ridge and spurs represent different landscape forms that you can consider separately when orienting yourself. At the northern edge of Němětice stands the Baroque Farmstead No. 29 on the road between the village green and the main road. The protected Farmstead No. 29 complex includes the residential house, stables, a barn, a masonry gate and the enclosed plots. Farmstead No. 29 is one of the finest examples of folk architecture in the area around Volyně. Němětice was founded in 1315 on royal land together with several other villages in the surrounding area by Queen Eliška Přemyslovna. House No. 8 on the road still has a timbered living room and a boarded gable. The chapel on the village green has a simple winged gable and a bell in the roof ridge. The Chapel of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is a masonry building with a rectangular floor plan and a three-sided ending in the folk Baroque style. House No. 2 is simple and has a triangular gable. You can examine these architectural details separately and distinguish between farmstead architecture, house forms and chapel construction. The buildings mentioned here represent different scales of the village's history: the protected farmstead complex comprises several structures, while the houses and chapels preserve individual design features. Together with the year of foundation and the earlier settlement of Hradec-Hradiště, they thus create distinct historical and architectural points of reference.

The Zlatá stezka route leads via Radošovice and Němětice to Volyně. Cold-water swimmers can bathe in the Volyňka. In 2006, funding was provided for part of a cycle path running along the Volyňka and the holiday-home area in Němětice. The route, swimming and cycle path represent different forms of activity; when planning your day, you can consider them separately rather than combining them into a single type of excursion. Those who want to combine several interests can place landscape, local history and activity side by side as independent focal points.
