Rosenberg combines Rožmberk Castle with a long local history and the location of Rožmberk nad Vltavou in the Vltava Valley. The castle dates from the mid-13th century and is one of the oldest castles of the Vítkovci family.

Those who choose Rosenberg as a place to stay may wish to book a hotel.

Culture

The present appearance of Rožmberk Castle is the result of a reconstruction in the Romantic Gothic style. The main castle tour introduces the Buquoy family, which owned Rožmberk Castle from 1620 until the end of the Second World War.

Jakobínka Tower is the only surviving remnant of the former Upper Rožmberk Castle. The ascent of nearly 170 steps offers views of the entire Rožmberk double-castle complex and the surrounding landscape. The tower is accessible exclusively as part of a guided tour.

History

The first written mention of the Church of St. Nicholas in Rožmberk dates from 1271. The church is a late Gothic building from the second half of the 15th century, constructed on older foundations.

The Old Jewish Cemetery is a preserved testimony to Jewish settlement and the last reminder of the long-standing Jewish tradition directly in Rožmberk nad Vltavou. Around 24 gravestones remain in the cemetery; the oldest dates from the mid-18th century. In the southern part of the town of Rožmberk nad Vltavou, remains of the 14th-century town fortifications have also been preserved.

Near Rožmberk nad Vltavou lies the Dolní Jílovice Nature Reserve, with remnants of a natural beech-fir forest. Mount Aubühel lies in the immediate vicinity of Rožmberk nad Vltavou. The mountains of Sternstein and Hirschenstein, as well as Babín Hill [Dolní Dvořiště-Jenín], are also located in the surroundings of Rožmberk nad Vltavou.
