Krumau (Český Krumlov) is situated on the Vltava River, with its historic center. The town was built around a 13th-century castle featuring Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque elements and preserves an exceptionally well-preserved medieval architectural heritage that has survived more than five centuries of uninterrupted development. The Regional Museum features a detailed ceramic model of the historic town center; it also displays the preserved interior of a Baroque Jesuit pharmacy.

Culture

The Český Krumlov castle complex includes a castle museum as well as a recently opened collection of carriages and sledges in the stables. The Church of St. Vitus is an important late Gothic building dating from 1407 to 1439 and features later alterations. Classical music concerts are occasionally held there.

The Český Krumlov Synagogue was built in 1909 by the local Jewish community. It has an octagonal tower with restrained Neo-Romanesque elements and is currently used as a meeting place and a multifunctional cultural, artistic, and social space.

The Fotoateliér Seidel Museum displays an authentic collection of historic photographs, glass negatives, cameras, and darkroom equipment. In the historic studio, it regularly presents themed photographs. At the Egon Schiele Art Centrum, the room where Egon Schiele lived and worked in 1911 is open to the public.

Port 1560 is located in a comprehensively reconstructed former manorial brewery and offers four exhibitions on the themes of life, work, art, and dreams.

The “Krumlovem na lodi” activity offers approximately two-hour canoe or rafting trips on the Vltava through Český Krumlov. Several weirs are passed along the way, including one directly below the castle; the historic district can be seen from the river.

In Český Krumlov, boats, rafts, bicycles, scooters, and electric bicycles, as well as complete water sports and cycling equipment, can be rented. The rental providers recommend excursion routes, organize the transport of equipment and people, and offer trips with instructors or guides.

Landscape

The pilgrimage complex on Křížová hora offers panoramic views with telescopes and a particularly beautiful view of Český Krumlov and the Bohemian Forest.
