Val: Hotels and Accommodation

Val is situated on the Nežárka at the northwestern edge of the Třeboňsko Protected Landscape Area.

If Val is your chosen destination, you can find a suitable hotel here.

Nature

The European protected area Nadějská soustava includes the cadastral area of Val u Veselí nad Lužnicí. This protected area includes depressions caused by the peat subsoil as well as habitats of the ash longhorn beetle and the otter. The undeveloped floodplains of the Lužnice and Nežárka rivers, along with the Nadějská soustava, are among Val’s most important natural assets.

The V Luhu Nature Reserve is also located in this cadastral area. It protects an oak forest ecosystem with preserved former river channels and floodplain pools. During the spring and autumn migrations, waterfowl regularly gather in the Rod Nature Reserve; in winter, the area is regularly visited by white-tailed eagles. The Rod Nature Reserve is publicly accessible via the pond dams along its southern and western shores.

Culture and History

Val is historically documented as early as 1413. The historic centre of Val has a preserved layout and surviving farmstead buildings. These include farmsteads with gables facing the street and houses arranged around a pond. To the north, the settlement continues with buildings on both sides of the road, likewise oriented with their gables facing the street.

The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk in Val is listed in the state heritage register under number 22734/3-5084. Together with the Chapel of Saint Wenceslas in the Meadows, it is one of Val’s architectural assets. The chapel on Val’s village square is one of the immovable cultural monuments taken into account in the local plan.

Water and Cycling

When water levels are good, water sports enthusiasts use the Nežárka for paddling. The flat landscape of the Třeboň Basin, with its forests and ponds, is suitable for cycling trips, even in hot weather.

Hamr campsite offers publicly accessible sanitary facilities with showers, which are also accessible to people with disabilities. It also has a common room with a kitchenette for preparing your own meals and bicycle storage.
