Vlhlavy has deep historical roots: the history of the settlement probably dates back to the Neolithic period, more than 7,000 years ago. At the same time, Vlhlavy is home to a number of farmsteads built in the Folk Baroque style. For a stay in Vlhlavy, you can choose and book a hotel according to your own criteria.

Culture and History

The first written mention of Vlhlavy dates from 1273. On the village square, opposite Farmstead No. 5, stands the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk. Its portal is dated 1841; inside is a polychrome statue of Saint John of Nepomuk.

Farmstead No. 5 is considered the best-preserved building of the Folk Baroque style in Vlhlavy. It has Blata-type gables painted with Saint Wenceslas and Saint Florian.

Earthworks from the ditches of the former Vlhlavy fortress have survived. The fortress was conquered and burned down by the Hussites in autumn 1420 under Jan Hrůza of Vlhlavy.

Bodies of Water

The Vlhlavy area is part of the Českobudějovické rybníky Bird Protection Area. The village is home to Vlhlavský rybník, one of the five largest ponds in the Budějovice–Hluboká pond system and also the tenth-oldest pond in South Bohemia. It was established in 1387–1388.

The Velký Karasín Natural Monument is also located near Vlhlavy.
