On an island in the Velké Nákří pond is the only breeding area of the Eurasian spoonbill in the Czech Republic. Three to four pairs of Eurasian spoonbills (Platalea leucorodia) have regularly bred there since 1991 and in recent years.

The artificially created islands in the Velké Nákří pond provide a habitat for birds; many greylag geese and other waterfowl currently breed there. Common and very rare waterbirds and marsh birds can often be found around Blatec and at other ornithological sites, including Nákří.

The Velké Nákří pond covers 42.49 hectares and is less suitable for swimming.

Water and Trails

The Velký Luský pond covers 26.00 hectares and is suitable for swimming on the side locally known as “by the church”. A stone viewpoint on the road to Loma offers a view of Nákří and the entire surrounding area, including Šumava.

The Jakub Kubata Monument in the vicinity of Nákří is accessible year-round. It can be reached via a green-marked hiking trail from Zliv in the direction of Zbudov, which is suitable for pedestrians and cyclists.

Culture and History

The entire complex of the Church of St. Peter and Paul in Nákří is protected as a historic monument. The Gothic church, designed in the Baroque style, was extended with a front tower in 1774 and restored in 1897 while preserving older valuable structural elements.

An old country road once led through Nákří from České Budějovice via Zaháj onward to Protivín and Písek.
