Kněževes: Hotels and Accommodation

Kněževes lies along several marked routes through the countryside. A blue-marked hiking trail runs directly through the village and continues via Olešnice, Veselka, Kněževes, Studenec, Svojanov and Bystré to Dalečín. The Svojanovsko educational trail begins in Kněževes and leads from there via Dolní Lhota and Svojanov to Rohozná.

Hiking and Cycling Routes

Local cycling route 5085 runs through Kněževes from Pustá Rybná, Lačnov, Korouhev, Jedlová and Kněževes, continuing via Ústup and Sulíkov to Rudka u Kunštátu. A higher-level cycling route leads from Kněževes to Kunštát along the old Imperial Road. Cycling route 5086 also runs from Svojanov via Hutě, Jobova Lhota, Kněževes, Olešnice, Křtěnov and Hodonín to Nedvědice.

The two local cycling routes cross in Kněževes. They run along existing dedicated paths and lower-order roads with low traffic intensity. In addition, a yellow-marked hiking trail leads from Kněževes northwards through Panský les to the settlement of Dolní Lhota.

Nature

The V Jezdinách Nature Monument lies within the administrative area of Kněževes. It protects a unique landscape complex of the cultural landscape of regional importance, with high ecological and aesthetic quality. V Jezdinách is particularly significant because six orchid species occur there.

From a tourism perspective, Kněževes is connected to the extensive areas of the Údolí Křetínky, Svratecká hornatina and Halasovo Kunštátsko nature parks.

Culture and Village Character

The settlement of Veselka in the municipality of Kněževes is designated as a protected village heritage conservation zone under ÚSKP number 2333. Kněževes is also home to the Chapel of Saint Mary Magdalene.

Local listed buildings include a Baroque stone wayside shrine in the form of a tall shaft with a stone cross and a figure of Christ. The year 1780 is inscribed on the square base. The Chapel of Saint Florian is small and has a square floor plan with rounded corners, a round-arched entrance and a four-sided bell tower on the helmet-shaped roof.

The Church of Saint James the Greater is a single-nave church of older origin with elaborate Baroque articulation, a laterally set choir with a shallow dome-like vault and an apse. A tower with a bulbous roof stands on the north side of the choir; the nave has a groin vault. The Church of Saint John the Baptist is Baroque and partly incorporates older masonry. Its nave has a flat ceiling and a wooden three-part gallery, while the elongated presbytery is vaulted with two groin-vault bays.

In front of the rectory on the village square stands a Baroque stone Marian column with a statue of the Immaculate Conception on a prismatic base with a composite capital. The granite fountain from 1684, with rosette reliefs on the sides of its basin, stood at the château in Stránecká Zhoř until 2013 and is now installed in Kněževes in disassembled form.

Kněževes is home to a small agricultural farm complex that originally served as an inn and, as the village’s last surviving wooden house, contains numerous authentic details. The village is also home to a fine statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, probably dating from around the mid-19th century; the restoration year 1891 is recorded on the pedestal.
