South Moravia at a Glance

The regional tourism portal divides South Moravia into five visitor areas: Moravian Karst and Surroundings, Brno and Surroundings, Znojmo and Podyjí, Pálava and the Lednice-Valtice Area, and Slovácko.

The 143 km² cultural landscape of the Lednice-Valtice Valley in South Moravia was shaped over time by architectural, biological and landscape features. Mikulov and the Lednice-Valtice chateau complex are mentioned as starting points for South Moravian cycling routes that connect vineyards, UNESCO heritage and wineries.

Culture and Wine

Valtice is home to the Valtice Wine Salon, a permanent tasting exhibition of Moravian and Bohemian wines in the cellar of Valtice Chateau. Valtice also offers a viticulture museum, an educational trail through vineyards and the underground of Valtice.

The wine route network connects historic towns, wine villages with characteristic cellar architecture, UNESCO heritage, folklore and Moravian wines. South Moravia has 1,200 kilometres of marked wine cycling trails through wine landscapes; this system is divided into ten circuits and connected by a 245-kilometre main route between Znojmo and Uherské Hradiště. The Moravian Wine Trails can be explored on foot or by bicycle and are described as routes with predominantly relaxed terrain suitable for family trips.

The Church of the Name of the Virgin Mary in Křtiny is a Baroque pilgrimage site designed by Jan Blažej Santini; at the same time, it is his largest building with a Greek-cross floor plan. The Historic Hall at Slavkov-Austerlitz Chateau hosted the armistice between France and Austria in 1805.
