Olomučany: Hotels and Accommodation

Olomučany is located on the northwestern foothills of the Drahanská vrchovina in hilly terrain. The village lies on the edge of the Moravský kras Protected Landscape Area, while a large part of its cadastral area is covered by mixed forests.

Nature

Hiking and cycling routes around Olomučany connect directly to paths leading into and out of the Moravian Karst. Almost all springs in the surrounding area can be reached on foot or by bicycle and are popular excursion destinations. A well-maintained forest park surrounds the U srnce spring.

The Lesnický Slavín landscape feature includes numerous mostly restored and well-maintained forest springs. The Máchův památník is located approximately in the middle of this landscape feature. It stands at an elevation of 508 metres and, in good visibility, offers views of the Pálava Hills and the nearest peaks of the Austrian Alps.

The local geology belongs to the so-called Brno intrusive or eruptive massif, which consists partly of limestone. Čertův hrádek protects a significant geological and geomorphological formation as well as remnants of natural fir-beech stands.

Culture and History

The ruins of Čertův hrádek and the ruins of Nový hrad are located in the cadastral area of Olomučany. Nový hrad is a highly significant castle complex that has been continuously used for various purposes since the 14th century. The Kostel Božského Srdce Páně church in Olomučany was built in 1939–1940.

A permanent exhibition about Olomučany ceramics is located in the municipal office. The ceramics were produced in the municipality in the second half of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century. The exhibition can be visited by prior arrangement with the municipal office.

Leisure

The Bahňák recreational area offers swimming and light refreshments during the summer months. The “Cyklovýlet ve stínu Kojálu” cycling tour is suitable for mountain bikes, electric bicycles, gravel bikes, trekking bikes and road bikes.

Events and Cuisine

At the recurring Velikonoční pomlázkování event in Olomučany, visitors can weave a pomlázka or make a wreath. The Včelařské odpoledne event includes tastings, demonstrations and workshops.

The Olomučanský košt vína combines a wine tasting featuring wines from four Moravian wineries with cimbalom music.

Getting There

Olomučany can be reached by bus from Blansko, 4 km away. The Brno–Česká Třebová railway corridor also runs through Blansko. Planning accommodation in Olomučany may include the wish to book a hotel there.
