Culture and Village Life
The brick bell tower on the village green in Závist was built in 1833 by Mariana Šumanová, the widow of a local innkeeper, and dedicated to the Holy Trinity. It underwent extensive restoration in 2014. Next to the chapel stands a stone cross bearing the year 1857, whose design features stone symbolism of the Holy Trinity.
The round well in Závist was restored in 2000. To this day, it receives water from the former municipal water supply, whose sources were located above the village.
Festivals and Events
Závist's village festivals take place on the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity. Under the auspices of the municipality, the library organizes cultural events several times a year, including a kite festival and a St. Nicholas celebration. It also has a study area with free internet access.
The traditional Christmas gathering of residents takes place on the village green at the Christmas tree. It includes the ceremonial lighting of the tree and a performance by children. A St. Nicholas celebration for children is held regularly in Závist. A St. Nicholas celebration or a witches' bonfire is also regularly held for children.
The Masopust procession and the Závistské hody are the largest social event of the year in Závist. A traditional Masopust procession featured original masks and humorous scenes; the procession followed a circuit through Závist and included stops for refreshments. As part of local traditions, a maypole is also erected on the village green.
Nature and Trails
Marked cycle route 5221 runs along the northern edge of Závist's cadastral territory. No marked hiking trail passes through the cadastral territory.
Transport
In the built-up part of Závist, there is a bus stop on road I/43 with bus bays and a shelter. It is connected to the village by a separate sidewalk or footpath.
The nearest railway station to Závist is in Rájec-Jestřebí, approximately 10 km away, on ČD railway line No. 260 between Prague, Česká Třebová, and Brno. The heavily trafficked I/43 road divides Závist into two parts and makes it more difficult to cross safely between them.
