Herálec: Hotels and Accommodation

The first written mention of Herálec dates back to 1366 and is connected with a border dispute between the Nové Město estate and Žďár Monastery. Renovated log houses, characteristic traditional buildings, can be seen in the town. A remnant of a former farmstead has also been preserved; it once belonged to the Rychmburk estate.

The Church of St. Catherine was rebuilt in the Neoclassical style in 1787 after the older church was severely damaged by lightning in 1785. Due to its location on a hill, it forms a distinctive landmark of the town. The three-arch stone Valenův most was built in 1856 and connects the Bohemian and Moravian parts of Herálec. A stone beside the bridge marks the historic boundary between Bohemia and Moravia.

The reconstructed Špačkův dům serves as a centre of social and cultural life and is one of Herálec’s prominent landmarks. A local museum was established in its attic, commemorating the history of the town. The reconstruction also included the creation of a restaurant with a riverside terrace.

Herálec is a starting point for relaxing walks into the nearby forests. Spruce and fir trees predominate there, with oak stands also occurring locally. The rock formation Devět skal is located in the vicinity of Herálec. At 836 m, it is the highest point of the Žďárské vrchy and has been designated a natural monument since 1976. The Devět skal rock formation is located approximately 3.5 km southeast of Herálec.

In the vicinity of Herálec, the forest reserve on Žákova hora protects natural fir and sycamore-beech stands across 15 hectares. The Naučná stezka Žákova hora – Tisůvka educational trail also runs there. It is approximately 10 km long and provides information about the nature and history of the northern part of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands.

In the vicinity of Herálec, a marked turn-off at the summit of Devět skal leads to a viewpoint with an almost panoramic view. In good visibility, Králický Sněžník or the Krkonoše Mountains may be visible.

Rybník Hať in the Moravian part of Herálec can be used for swimming during the summer months. It has a grassy beach, a sandy, gently sloping bottom, and wooden steps leading into the water.

Rybník Kuchyně in the Bohemian part of Herálec, also called Vodičák or Šantůreček, is accessible for swimming along its entire shore. Fishing is permitted at Rybník Kuchyně upon purchase of a permit.
