The cascade begins where the Meriküla Stream flows down from the Klint Plateau above the village of Kõrtsialuse. Two cycling routes pass through Kõrtsialuse: Route 5 runs from the visitor centre via Kalvi to Aseri, and Route 6 via Kestla to Rannu.

The 1840 map also records the name Rannu kõrts, or Ranno Krug, for an inn marked southeast of Kõrtsialuse.
