Inside and out, the cultural centre preserves Stalinist architecture from the 1940s and 1950s. It was built in 1949 and is recognised as an architectural monument.

Another detail of the historic urban design is the staircase on Kajaka Street in the old town. It was renovated in 2019 and originally built in the 1950s in the city’s neoclassical development area. Such individual architectural elements complement the impression created by the larger buildings and streets.

By the water and in its parks, Sillamäe shows another side. Merepark covers approximately 20 hectares and is the city’s largest recreational park. It includes a bathing beach, a pine forest, fire pits and walking paths. The park is therefore suitable for a more leisurely day trip, allowing you to combine paths and time by the coast.

The waterfalls also differ significantly. The Langevoja Cascade forms a 10-metre-wide and 2-metre-deep gorge with two tiers. Beside the waterfall there is a rest area with fire pits, suitable for a picnic. Ukuoru Waterfall is 7.5 metres high and has a single tier. From there, views open up over Päite Cliff, the city of Sillamäe and the sea bay.

In Sillamäe, the Sõtke River is dammed by three dams into a cascade of reservoirs unique in Estonia. Together with the limestone coast running through Sillamäe, this creates a landscape that combines water, coast and distinctive terrain formations.

The Sillamäe Museum offers a permanent exhibition in two parts. The first part provides an overview of the city’s origins and development. The second is outdoors and offers virtual reality experiences. In the basement of the cultural centre, a permanent exhibition about the city’s Soviet period is also housed in a former air-raid shelter.

The museum offers craft workshops ranging from simple handicrafts to elaborate embroidery. In Müstiline Sillamäe Park, children can rent three pedal cars and several electric cars. The bookable-in-advance adventure Salapärane Sillamäe – linna varjatud ajalugu provides access to a new exhibition with special permission and uses virtual reality. It also includes a tasting of period-style pastries and a handmade carbonated drink.
