The Apteekrimäe hiking trail begins and ends at the sports centre on Mäe Street and is 4 km long.
A 12 km hiking trail leads around Lake Pühajärv. It begins near the centre of Otepää Nature Park. Approximately 2.2 km of the trail run along a pedestrian and cycle path beside the Otepää–Kääriku road. The northern tip of Lake Pühajärv offers a beach, ball courts, a children’s playground, relaxation areas, cafés and a pier. This allows walks and time by the water to be combined with a variety of activities.
For longer cross-country skiing routes, the 63 km Tartu Marathon cross-country ski trail begins at the stadium of the Tehvandi Sports Centre in Otepää. It leads via Väike Munamägi, Matu, Harimägi, Kuutsemägi and Palu to Elva. Those looking for water activities can go wakeboarding and water skiing at Otepää Wakepark.

Otepää Adventure Park has climbing courses, a 350 m flight over Castle Valley and a catapult jump from a height of up to 20 m. The park also has a safe course for children. Another weather-dependent option is located in Linnamäe Valley in the centre of Otepää: Otepää Winterplace offers snow tubing, a toboggan run, an ice rink, an igloo cinema and a winter play area.
At the ice rink on Lake Pühajärv, visitors can mainly ride traditional sleds. Subject to suitable conditions, kicksleds and FAT scooters are also possible there. These activities differ significantly from the cross-country ski trails and hiking paths around the lake.
What history and culture can you discover?
The Eesti Lipu Muuseum was established in the Otepää parish house. It commemorates the fact that the blue, black and white flag was consecrated in this building on 4 June 1884. The Lutheran Otepää Maarja Church is also historically connected with the Estonian national flag. The church is designed in the Neo-Gothic style and has an 1880 altarpiece as well as a Kessler organ dating from 1853.
The Otepää Hill Fort ruins include the remains of a stone castle founded by Bishop Hermann in 1224. Europe’s oldest known firearm was also found there. The historic sites complement the nature and sporting activities with specific stops connected to Estonian history.
