What should you know about Lake Vidrike?
The Vidrike järve hoiuala protected area covers 13.8 hectares. There are no public recreational facilities at the lake itself. Access is via private land, and the rights of the landowners must be respected. If you plan to visit the lake, take these access conditions into account.
The lake is also part of the canoe adventure on the Kooraste Lakes. The route passes through eleven bodies of water, including Lake Vidrike, connected by the narrow, winding Sillaotsa River. Access to the shore and the canoe tour therefore involve different aspects of a visit: when accessing the area by land, private property and the rights of its owners must be respected; the tour connects several bodies of water.
How do the recreational activities differ?
The Sokka Leisure and Recreation Centre has a disc golf course and offers paintball equipment rental for groups. These are two different activities: disc golf is played on a course with baskets, while paintball equipment can be rented. You can find the specific figures in the answers at the end of the page.
Equestrian activities also feature in the local information: Vidrike has a riding stable. The first family equestrian event, Vidrike Galopp, took place in 1995. This date places the event in its historical context; it does not indicate the date of a current event.
What is the local history behind the manor and the school?
Vidrike was named after Friedrichshof Manor, founded in 1747. The manor house was a single-storey wooden building, partly made of stone. The manor house was destroyed in the period after the Second World War. The origin of the place name and the architectural history of the manor house are two distinct milestones in the same historical context.
The history of the school also includes several dates that should not be confused: Vidrike School was founded in 1776. The school building, erected in 1866, burned down in 1891. The former manor complex also included the former steward’s house in Vidrike. It was built in the mid-1880s and housed a village tavern.
What does the local cuisine offer?
Vidrike KĂĽlamaja restaurant serves pizza baked in a real stone oven. As the menu may change, check the current offerings before your visit.
