The History Museum Ozurgeti displays approximately 7,000 objects dating from the 9th century BC to the present day. These include archaeological material, finds from Vashnari, ancient coins, ethnographic and documentary collections, fine art, and old printed books. Settlements from the Bronze Age have been documented in Ozurgeti; contemporary historical accounts of Ozurgeti begin with documents dating from the 16th century.

Nearby, in the village of Dvabzu, the Shalva Radiani Ethnographic Museum presents a reconstructed traditional Gurian house with a cooking area, barn, granary, wine cellar and well. The display is complemented by household items from Guria and personal belongings of Shalva Radiani. The Ozurgeti Fine Arts Centre exhibits works by Georgian artists.

Music and Stage

The Ozurgeti Folklore Centre documents the cultural history of Guria and celebrates Georgian culture. Hundreds of children learn folk songs and dances there. The centre includes a recording studio, exhibition and concert halls, as well as a conductors’ school. It archives original sheet music, concert recordings and photographs. The centre also organises music evenings, exhibitions of traditional artworks and the Black Sea International Folklore Festival.

The ensemble of the Ozurgeti State Drama Theatre continues to stage theatrical performances. The theatre has the status of a cultural monument and features a two-tiered auditorium with 750 seats, decorated with Georgian ornaments. It is housed in a building in the style of ancient Greece, where performances took place in 1962.

Gurian ghvezeli is described as a crescent-shaped pastry associated with the cuisine of Ozurgeti. Lobio is also associated with the local cuisine of Ozurgeti. Chkhaveri, Sakmiela, Jani, Skhilatubani and Tsolikouri are described as local wines that go well with pkhaleuli. Gurian black tea, rolled black tea and green tea are associated with the Guria region.
