Roshka: Hotels and Accommodation

The natural monument Roshka Rocks is a one-kilometre-long hike, taking about ten minutes, from Roshka. It consists of erratic rocks transported by a Pleistocene glacier. Pshav-Khevsureti National Park is known for landscapes and natural formations such as Roshka Rocks and Lake Tanie. It is also associated with medieval cultural heritage in Shatili, Mutso, Ardoti and Khakhabo.

Nature and Landscape

Pshav-Khevsureti National Park encompasses the Asa, Arghuni, Andakistskali, Pshavi and Aragvi valleys. Its area is home to 1,213 plant species, including 259 endemic species.

Culture

Pshav-Khevsureti is associated with local Khevsur traditions, as well as unique local cuisine and Khevsur hospitality.

Trails and Lakes

The Abudelauri Lakes are described as colourful natural attractions in Georgia. The White Lake lies at an altitude of over 2,800 metres at the foot of the Chiukhi Glacier. The paved road ends at Roshka, and a seven-kilometre trail begins there, leading to the Blue and Green Lakes. Roshka is also the starting point for a hiking trail to the White, Blue and Green Lakes that connects Khevsureti and Kazbegi. An additional 1.5-kilometre route over rocks and scree leads to the White Lake. Summer, especially June and July, is considered the best time to visit the lakes.

Getting Around

The protected areas of Pshav-Khevsureti can only be visited by off-road vehicle. On marked trails, visitors can travel there on horseback, by car or on foot. The route to the protected areas branches into the Renaissance and Roshka–Arkhoti routes.

The section from Bogovacho Pass to Roshka runs along an unpaved road; travelling by off-road vehicle is recommended. The Gudani–Roshka trail is difficult and is recommended with an experienced, certified guide. Between Gudani and Ukhankhadu, the route includes an eleven-kilometre section of unpaved road that should be covered by off-road vehicle. It reaches Tanie Pass at 3,040 metres on the main ridge of the Caucasus and offers views of South Khevsureti and the Khevsureti Aragvi River.

Accommodation

Overnight accommodation is available in Roshka and Barisakho. Roshka has several family-run guesthouses and is also suitable for camping. Those wishing to book a hotel in Roshka can continue their accommodation search afterwards.
