Landscape

Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti comprises the three areas of Racha, Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti; its valleys are shaped by the Rioni, Tskhenistskali and Lajanuri rivers. Gora Mechereti, Gora Tarigoni, Gora Lelaashkha and Mt’a Samerts’khle are located in the surrounding region. The region is associated with the Georgian wines Usakhelouri, Tvishi and Khvanchkara; Lower Racha is associated with the Khvanchkara microzone.

The region’s landscape features include mountain ranges, caves, rivers, waterfalls, lakes, glaciers, reservoirs and karst caves.

History and Culture

The region’s archaeological and historical references range from Stone Age settlements through the Bronze and Iron Ages, including bronze production and copper mining; Svaneti is also associated with ancient Colchis and gold-mining traditions.
