What traces of culture can you discover in Feked?

The church was built in the Baroque style on the site of a former wooden church. Its extension in 1846 adds another well-dated chapter to its architectural history. Renovated houses also shape the village’s appearance: in the early 2000s, the façades of around 60 houses were refurbished, and most of them are protected locally.

At the cemetery, a Calvary with fourteen stations climbs a steep slope to the stone cross of Christ and the crosses of the two thieves. Hiking trails around Feked also lead to several crosses on the edge of the village, in the forest and in fields along roads and at crossroads. Some of the stories associated with these crosses are still alive in local memory.

An organized village walk offers a different focus: during a short stroll through the village centre, a guide introduces its history, traditions, architecture, sights and everyday life. Walks are available on request. If you’re especially interested in customs and festivals, these topics are also covered by the Feked nature trail, established in 2018, which can be visited at any time without a guide.

Which hiking trails are available?

The green-marked circular trail is the route for which both distance and walking time are specified: its 13.2 kilometres start and end in Feked, and the stated duration is about 3.5 to 4 hours. Allow enough time to complete the loop. Check the markings and trail conditions locally.

The blue-marked National Blue Trail, by contrast, is located north of Feked along the border with Ófalu. The two descriptions therefore make a clear distinction: for the circular trail, the start, finish, length and approximate duration are given; for the National Blue Trail, its stated location is the key point of reference.

What makes the Stifolder Festival special?

The village celebration, Stifolder Festival, takes place as part of the church feast. It centres on a smoked paprika sausage known in the area. The date varies from year to year, so it’s important to plan accordingly: the festival is held annually on the first Saturday after Pentecost. Check the date for your travel year before planning your stay around it.

The sausage also has a regional history: the basic recipe for Stifolder sausage came to southern Hungary with German settlers in the 18th century. The festival itself offers a tangible connection to local event traditions.

What other cultural and natural attractions are there in Baranya?

The wider destination of Baranya includes other places to visit in their own right. In Pécs, the Early Christian Necropolis of Sopianae features decorated tombs dating from the 4th century: underground burial chambers are linked to above-ground memorial chapels and adorned with Christian wall paintings. In Villány, you can visit the wine cellars year-round, going from one cellar to the next to sample wines and food. These examples offer a broader view of Baranya but are not attractions in Feked.
