Geographical Location

Csemő is a municipality in Cegléd District, Pest County. The town is located 65 kilometers southeast of Budapest and borders Cegléd to the northwest. Nearby municipalities include Mikebuda, Nyársapát, Nagykőrös and Lajosmizse.

Culture

Csemő is associated with a traditional flower market held for Mother's Day and the Anyám tyúkja cooking festival. The program also included folk dancing, Hungarian singing performances, and children's and stage performances.

History

In 1952, Csemő became an independent municipality, formed from settlement areas that had previously belonged to Cegléd and Nagykőrös. In addition, two farm schools were established on the initiative of winegrowers in the late 19th century.

Csemő has an agricultural character associated with viticulture, fruit growing and arable farming. Traditional wine and fruit cultivation took place in the wider region during the first half of the 20th century.

The historic Cegléd–Hantháza railway line was built in 1909, mainly for economic reasons.
