Kosd lies at the southeastern tip of Naszály, in the area of the Kosd Hills belonging to the Cserhát, and on both banks of the Kosd Stream.

Kosd is a dead-end settlement reached via local road 21117. Access is available from Route 2 via the center of Vác or from the M2 at the Vác-centre–Kosd interchange.

History

Kosd is described as a settlement dating from the Árpád era and was historically granted by King Andrew II to the Diocese of Vác.

During the Revolution and War of Independence of 1848–49, two battles between Vác and Kosd took place in the area of Kosd, at the foot of Naszály.

A coal mine operated on the mountainside from 1904 to 1931; a monument in Kosd commemorates the mine workers who died.
