Zerenda: Hotels and accommodations

Zerenda combines a lake, forest, and mountains with routes, winter activities, and the Zerenda Butterfly Museum. The landscape extends from the waters of Lake Zerenda to the wooded slopes of the Zerendi Mountains.

Nature

Lake Zerenda is a freshwater lake with clear water and part of Kokshetau National Park. Its bed is predominantly flat and sandy, while parts of the shore are covered with fine sand. A pine forest grows beside the lake. The Zerendi Mountains contain slopes covered with birch and pine forest; one hill there offers a panorama of the surrounding forest and lake.

Routes and activities

The route to Smolnaya Hill connects the visitor center to Smolnaya Hill via a ski roller track. The walking route is 3 kilometers long there and back and takes approximately 1 hour 30 minutes, including breaks. It leads through mixed forest consisting of pines, aspens, and birches.

The official tourist water route on Lake Zerenda is 4.8 kilometers long there and back and takes approximately 3 hours 10 minutes, including breaks. At the lake, visitors can sunbathe, swim, and fish. The Zerenda area also has routes for hiking, horseback riding, and cycling.

The «Күн жағы» route is 4 kilometers long there and back and takes approximately 60 minutes, including breaks. It passes the Zerenda Butterfly Museum, which is located 0.6 kilometers from the start.

Culture

The Zerenda Butterfly Museum is located at the ski base in Zerenda, at 124 Tauelzsizdik Street. Its collection comprises more than 2,000 butterflies from around the world.

Winter

The Sunqar Winter Base in Zerenda offers sledding and other winter sports. There are runs for children's sleds and tubing; winter equipment is also available for rent.

Surroundings and arrival

The Dragon Cave is located in the nearby area, approximately 31 kilometers west of Zerenda; there is a small parking area nearby. The seasonal, 10-meter-high Ulgulin Waterfall is also located in the nearby area, in wooded surroundings with unusual rock formations.

From Astana, after reaching Kokshetau, visitors can continue to Zerenda by scheduled bus or taxi; the final section is approximately 50 kilometers long.
