Culture and History

The Kamenskoye Plateau Sanatorium opened in 1932 as a sanatorium for climate therapy and kumis treatment. From 1941 to 1945, it served as an evacuation hospital for wounded soldiers. The sanatorium operated year-round and had a capacity of 150 beds.

The observatory includes a Hertz reflector, a Maksutov telescope, an AZT-8 telescope, and a Zeiss-600 telescope. The Hertz reflector is used exclusively for excursions. The observatory’s ASI-2 is described as the first Maksutov-system telescope installed in the USSR.
