Turksib: Hotels and accommodation

Turksib railway station marks the southern starting point of construction work on the Turkestan–Siberia Railway. The first rails were laid here in November 1927.

History

Turksib railway station regained its historical name in 2020 after the former Lugovaya station was officially renamed Түрксіб. A memorial plaque at the station identifies it as the place where the Turkestan–Siberia Railway began between 1927 and 1930.

The official opening of construction work on the Turkestan–Siberia Railway took place on 21 November 1927 at Lugovoy station. At the end of 1939, Zabira Yusupova transferred to what is now Turksib railway station as a locomotive driver.

Transport

Train services on the Turksib railway began operating on 1 May 1930. The main Turksib line extended for approximately 1,500 kilometres and was opened to through traffic in 1930, when its rails were connected.

The historic Turksib route is described as a route approximately 1,445 kilometres long that ran from Semey via Ayagoz, Aktogay, Almaty, Shokpar and Shu to Lugovoy. Trains passing through Turksib railway station provide rail connections towards Astana, Almaty, Taraz and Bishkek. Lugovoy station became a junction for three railways.

The settlement has 4,000 metres of footpaths. Comprehensive renovation of the railway station and improvements to the surrounding area have begun. The stated aim was to create a more convenient environment for passengers.
