Toktogul: Hotels and Accommodation

Toktogul is located on the northern shore of the Toktogul Reservoir. The reservoir lies on the Naryn River and is the largest artificial lake in Kyrgyzstan. There is a sandy beach at the reservoir; in summer, the water can warm to around 28 degrees Celsius. There are also bird nesting sites there.

Nature and Water

The Alatay State Nature Park is located near Toktogul. It was established in the Toktogul District to preserve unique natural complexes and biological diversity.

Activities in the Toktogul Reservoir area include fishing, diving, motorcycle tours, and jeep tours. Camping is possible beside the reservoir; you can return to Toktogul for supplies.

Routes in the Surrounding Area

The Chychkan Gorge Waterfall Hike is located near Toktogul. It is a seven-mile round-trip route with caves and Waterfall Unkur. It takes about 15 minutes by taxi from Toktogul.

A CBT route leads from Toktogul toward Sary-Chelek as a moderately difficult, multi-day driving and trekking route. It includes horseback riding, camping, mountain passes, and excursions to mountain lakes. In addition, a multi-day trekking route branches off from the main road toward the Toktogul Reservoir, reaches Toktogul, and continues through mountain valleys and over passes toward the Sary-Chelek area.

The Toktogul to Arslanbob Horseback Tour connects the remote mountains of the Toktogul region with Arslanbob.

Culture and History

The Toktogul Reservoir and Toktogul Hydroelectric Station are named after the Kyrgyz akyn Toktogul Satylganov. The dam of the Toktogul Hydroelectric Station is 215 meters high and 292 meters wide. The power plant has four generating units and a total capacity of 1,200 megawatts.

In 1989, a T. Satylganov Memorial Museum was opened in Toktogul. A monument in the Toktogul area commemorates Khan Sadyr Arzymat uulu, a Kyrgyz commander and leader of the 18th century.
