Chaek: Hotels and Accommodation

Chaek is located in a narrow mountain valley surrounded by the steep ridges of the Inner Tien Shan. Jumgal District lies entirely within the Inner Tien Shan and features mountainous terrain at elevations above 2,000 metres. Chayek is described as an agricultural settlement known for growing fruit trees and raising livestock. In autumn, Chayek hosts an apple festival that attracts farmers from various parts of Kyrgyzstan.

Nature

Several small alpine lakes are described around Chayek. The lakes listed include Beshkugandy Kol, Chontaash Kol and Sary Kol. The higher-elevation terrain around Chayek is described as a landscape offering panoramic views.

Sary-Köl is described as a place to stop at a high-altitude lake while hiking through alpine meadows and green passes. An experienced local guide is recommended for inexperienced hikers and climbers in the area of the alpine lakes around Chayek.

Panorama Hill can be reached via an easy 30-minute walk along a bumpy road; the route passes the Tagai Guesthouse and a local Kok-Boru field. From Panorama Hill, views extend across the village of Chayek and the Jumgal Valley.

Routes

A mountain-bike route to Son-Kul via the Kara-Keche Pass runs from Chayek to Tash-Dobo. A cycling descent through the Kekemeren Canyon leads from Suusamyr to Chayek. Destination Jumgal created 10 horse-riding routes and 12 hiking routes, which were included in an international tourist map.

Culture

The Jumgal Regional History Museum is dedicated to notable figures from the region and houses artefacts and photographs of notable local residents.

The Arab Mausoleums are located in the foothills north of Chayek. Arabic inscriptions and stylised architecture are described as indicating an origin on the Silk Road in the 17th century.

The Kalyk Akiev Musical Drama Theatre in Chayek was founded in 1937 and staged festive theatre events for 3,362 spectators in 2024. On 21 February 2022, the theatre building was described as unsafe; access was prohibited due to a decision by the Ministry of Emergency Situations from 2013.

Faith

Jumgal-Ata is located approximately 7 km east of Chayek and is described as a sacred site with a mausoleum, springs, trees, a pilgrimage site and a mosque.

Visitors are described as praying there, spending the night and drinking water from the site; a place used for prayer there is called Kamyr.

Getting Around

Bus services from Chayek to Bishkek and Naryn are listed as operating. The road from the Tyuz-Ashuu Pass to Kochkor passes through Chayek.
