Jaunanna: Nature, the Pededze and Historic Sites
Jaunanna combines a protected river landscape, a short nature trail, cycling, canoeing and cultural and historical sites. The Jaunanna Nature Reserve protects the Pededze River as well as the surrounding forests and meadows. The “Bebru valstība” nature trail is 1 km long. The boundaries of the nature reserve are marked in the area by special information boards. The “Jaunanna Hunting Palace”, built after 1904, serves as a cultural and historical landmark.

The watermills of the Jaunanna estate are part of Jaunanna’s historical character. They were also used to process wool and timber. The “Jaunanna Hunting Palace” was built from roughly hewn fieldstones.
Is Jaunanna suitable for an active trip?
Cycling Route No. 168, “Three Annas and Ērmanis”, runs through Jaunanna. Canoeing on the Pededze is suitable for beginners as well as experienced active travellers.
Local events are also part of the character of the area. At a community festival in Jaunanna, products from local entrepreneurs, craftspeople, farmers, artisans and cake makers were presented, sampled and offered for sale. On 22 August 2026, a day of active recreation with inflatable attractions and shared soup after the activities was also held at the “Zaķusala” active recreation site; participation was free of charge. This date is already in the past and is therefore not an indication of a future event date.

Where can Cycling Route No. 168 begin or end?
The “Three Annas and Ērmanis” route can begin or end at Umernieki station, in coordination with the timetable of the Gulbene–Alūksne railway. The timetable is expressly part of this coordination.
What should you bear in mind when canoeing at the weir?
At the weir in Jaunanna, boats must be carried to Zaķu Island before being put back into the river. This interruption is part of the route described.
