Discover Ogre: Culture, Nature and Family Activities

• The Ogre History and Art Museum offers tours led by museum specialists at two locations: Brīvības Street 36 and Brīvības Street 2.
• Tornis Ogre includes a restored water tower from the 20th century. The tower had not been used since the late 1980s.
• Ogres Zilie kalni Nature Park covers 312 hectares. In summer, it has networks of trails for Nordic walking and cycling.

Brīvības Street is known for examples of architecture from the 1920s and 1930s. These include buildings by Vladimirs Šervinskis, Indriķis Blakenburgs, Eduards Smurģis and Dāvids Zariņš. This makes the street a tangible starting point if you are interested in the city's built history.

Another distinctive architectural topic is Ogre Central Library. It is currently Latvia's largest public wooden building and belongs to the category of passive or zero-energy buildings. Visitors can view exhibitions there and book a guided tour by arrangement. The permanent exhibitions of the Ogre History and Art Museum are called “From bank to museum” and “Pietura Ogre”.

The arched pedestrian bridge over the Ogre River was built in 1966. It is 94 metres long and 4.5 metres wide and connects the centre of Ogre with Pāroge. Its dimensions and function clearly distinguish it from the 100-metre-long wooden pedestrian bridge that forms part of the Krasta Promenade.

The “Mīlestības koks” sculpture stands by the Loka Bridge, on the side of Ogre's open-air stage. The Krasta Promenade is also a popular venue for concerts and festivals, as well as a popular recreational and walking area for local residents and visitors to the city. This section therefore combines different reasons for a stay without reducing the river landscape to a single excursion destination.

The dolomite outcrops of Ogre are a protected natural monument. Remains of various prehistoric invertebrate marine animals and fossil fish have been found in the exposed dolomite rocks. Ogres Zilie kalni Nature Park also has a 30-metre-high observation tower offering views of Ogre and the green forest areas.

For a more active pursuit, there is the “Zilie kalni – orientējies” orienteering facility. It is located in the area between Ogre and Ikšķile and has 60 permanently installed control points with QR codes. Ogre Skatepark offers more than 300 square metres of space and five different demountable wooden ramp structures.

Ogre can be reached from Riga by intercity bus and train.

The Jaunogre Activity and Recreation District is a public outdoor recreational area. It includes a sports equipment area and activity equipment for children and young people.

Arena Ogre also expands the range of events: it is the home venue of the Ogre basketball club, and indoor football matches are also held there. Other places to compare are Madliena, Ķeipene, Suntaži, Ogresgals and Meņģele.
