Zupci: Hotels and Accommodation

A hiking route leads from the village of Zupci via St. Ivan Church and Ribnjak Monastery to Mužić and Sutorman. On the SJ05 Bar cycling route, cyclists can visit St. John’s Church in Zupci via a paved lane before riding down to Bar. The Zupci climbing area comprises 15 routes with difficulty levels ranging from 3 to 9 and is described as suitable for everyone.

Nature and Trails

The Zupci–Mužice–PPT trail is one of the hiking trails scheduled for maintenance. The Zubački Skak waterfall is located in Zupci above Vickovići and next to Dumezići. Skak consists of three waterfalls with a combined height of more than 100 metres; the highest is approximately 40 metres high, and the cascades form a small lake at the foot.

Culture and History

Ribnjak Monastery is located in the village of Zupci and is classified as cultural heritage. St. John the Baptist is the patron and protector of Zupci. On the eve of the Feast of St. John, fires known as Ivanjski kresovi are lit in Zupci, and children jump over them.

The Church of St. John the Baptist was built on the site of an older church that was relocated from Ribnjak in 1844 after the earthquake of 1667. Zupci is known for preserving old customs associated with baptisms, weddings and funerals. The wedding customs and ceremonial toasts of Zupci have been described as different from those in Bar and nearby villages.

Regional Cuisine

The Babić household in Zupci offers agricultural products, including olive oil, juices, fruit jams, fig cake and homemade rakija. Regional specialities include Zubački cheese, prijesnac, obarak and stufada. The traditional Zupci dish prijesnac is prepared on St. John’s Day from cheese, eggs, milk and rice. Zupci is described as an area known for mulberry brandy and white mulberry trees several centuries old.
