Škaljari: Hotels and Accommodation
In Škaljari, a monument commemorates the leaders of the 1918 Boka Navy Mutiny. It is dedicated to František Raš, Antun Grabar, Jerko Šižgorić and Mato Brničević and was designed by Anđelka and Stevo Marović.
Culture
The village’s churches include St Dujma, the southernmost church dedicated to Saint Dujma. It was restored in 2004 and returned to religious use. The building is a single-nave stone church from the 19th century with a semicircular apse and bell gable.
The Church of St Luke was first mentioned in the 16th century; its present appearance dates from the 17th or 18th century. The Church of the Protection of the Mother of God was built in 1846 and modelled on the Church of St Luke in Kotor.
St Michael’s was built in 1865 in the southern part of Kotor Cemetery. The Church of Our Lady of the Snow was built in 1903 and is located behind a walled entrance among mature pine trees.
The St Francis Monastery complex in Gurdić was founded in 1288 by Queen Jelena Anžujska. The archaeological site includes a medieval cemetery and the remains of the Church of St Peter, which was built on late antique remains. The Church of St Vincent in Škaljari was built in 1828 as a single-nave stone structure.
Škaljari Cemetery is a member of the Association of Significant Cemeteries in Europe and has been awarded European Heritage status.
Paths and Places
The Lipovac House stands directly beside the old Austro-Hungarian road to Njeguši. Its courtyard contains a paved path and a threshing floor once used for threshing grain.
The routes at the Boneyard Wall in Škaljari are described as dry, even after weeks or months of rain. The first section of the Boneyard Wall is 45 metres high.
