Ulcinj: Hotels and Accommodations

Culture

The Old Town of Ulcinj is registered as a cultural asset of Montenegro and protected by law. It comprises an upper military area dominated by the citadel and a lower civilian area. Its architecture preserves Illyrian-Greek, medieval, Venetian, and Ottoman layers. At the same time, it is one of the oldest urban architectural complexes on the Adriatic coast and has developed over more than 2.5 millennia.

The Church-Mosque houses the town museum. Beg’s Tower is the family museum of the Resulbegović family at the Palata Venezia Hotel. The tower displays authentic antiques and handcrafted furniture in an oriental-style interior. It is located in a former town palace that also served as a residence for rulers and princes. Sahat Kula in Ulcinj was built in 1754 through donations from citizens.

Near Ulcinj lies the Old Town of Shas on an 85-meter-high hill north of Lake Shas; from there, views extend over the lake and the Bojana Delta. The old town contains the ruins of around ten ancient churches.

Coast

Near Ulcinj are Velika Plaža, Ulcinjska Plaža, Valdanos, and the island and beach of Stari Ulcinj. These protected coastal sites are registered as natural monuments.

Small City Beach has a shallow seabed described as suitable for children. The 360-meter-long beach has a small harbor with a landing stage below the old town.

Near Ulcinj, Ada Bojana has a 3-kilometer-long sandy beach and offers water sports, beach volleyball, and mini football. There are also fish restaurants that prepare locally caught fish in the traditional way.

Near Ulcinj, Valdanos has a 376-meter-long beach designated as a natural monument. Valdanos offers opportunities for hiking, swimming, diving, cycling, sailing, and fishing. The Valdanos olive grove comprises around 18,000 olive trees that are on average 800 years old and is under special state protection.

Nature

Ulcinj Solana was declared a private nature park in 2004 and is a habitat for 240 bird species. It has birdwatching facilities and a museum.

Visitors can walk between the saltwater ponds at Ulcinj Solana while observing birds. A 5.4-kilometer ecological cycling path leads to a birdwatching tower.

Activities

Ulcinj offers conditions for kitesurfing, surfing, diving, hiking, paragliding, and mountain biking.
