Racot

Racot’s neoclassical palace dates from the 18th century and was designed by Dominik Merlini. In 1921, it was given the status of a residence for the Presidents of the Republic of Poland. The Racot State Stud Farm was established on the estate in 1928; the history of local horse breeding dates back to 1925.

The site also includes a palace chapel dedicated to Saint Stanislaus and Saint George, as well as an English-style park adjoining the palace. The stud farm offers recreational riding and riding lessons for beginners.

The palace combines neoclassical architecture with several chapters of Polish history. Its former role as a presidential residence dates back to 1921. The cultural history of the building is also remarkable: the palace had one of the first court theatre stages in Poland. Works by Józef Wybicki and Wojciech Bogusławski were performed there.

The church in Racot is also part of the town’s history. It is the palace chapel associated with the Jabłonowski family and, over the course of its history, served both the Catholic and Protestant communities. A Protestant congregation in Racot was founded on 18 March 1817. A preserved carriage that Ignacy Jan Paderewski travelled in in December 1918 is displayed in the palace coach house.
