Hiking

The “Szlak Jasieniowa” hiking trail runs through the southern part of Goleszów, across the slopes of Jasieniowa and over Mount Jasieniowa. From several points, it offers panoramic views of the Silesian Beskids, the Cieszyn Foothills, the Ostrava and Oświęcim Basins, as well as Goleszów. The trail is 7.0 kilometres long, includes approximately 250 metres of ascent and takes around 2.5 to 3 hours to walk.

The “Pod Chełmem” hiking trail runs through the northern part of Goleszów and along the southern slopes of Mount Chełm. It offers the opportunity to visit several historic buildings in Goleszów.

In the wider area around Goleszów, the easy “Graniczny” hiking trail connects the border villages of Dzięgielów and Leszna Górna, passes through Leszna and around Mount Tuł. A large part of the route follows asphalt roads.

Landscape

Goleszów lies between the two elevations of Chełm and Jasieniowa, which is also known as Goleszowska Górka. Both consist of alternating layers of limestone and Cieszyn shale. Remains of the quarries are visible on the northern slopes of Jasieniowa.

The TON body of water in Goleszów was formed in a former marl quarry from water that seeped into the quarry. The body of water is home to more than 20 fish species, as well as representatives of several native amphibian and reptile species.

Culture and History

The three-dimensional model “Makieta Cementowni Goleszów” depicts the grounds of the cement factory in the 1950s and 1960s, including part of the quarries.

The Zespół Pieśni i Tańca “Goleszów” presents songs and dances from the Cieszyn region and performs at various events and concerts.

The Gminny Ośrodek Kultury in Goleszów is a cultural centre for the residents of the Goleszów municipality and for people staying in its area, offering courses, activities and events.

The Izba Oświęcimska, established in 2006 at the Gminny Ośrodek Kultury, is a modernised exhibition and educational centre with documents and exhibits relating to the history of an external camp, the lives and deaths of the prisoners, and residents of the Goleszów municipality who helped the prisoners.
