Zieleniewo: Manor Park and Village History

Medieval ironworking links Zieleniewo with Kołobrzeg. Bog iron ore was extracted from the meadows along the Parsęta and smelted in bloomery furnaces. This historical connection stretches from the raw material in the landscape to its processing. Estates also shaped the village’s history alongside this craft: the Pomeranian families Bork and Schlieffen owned estates in Zieleniewo. Bricks were also made here from local clay. Ironworking, estates and brickmaking are distinct aspects of the area’s recorded economic and local history.

The former manor park is on ul. Szczecińska. It is thought to have been established toward the end of the 19th century; rows of oaks and lindens remain, while the paths are now barely recognizable. The date is therefore given with some qualification. The buildings can be distinguished more precisely by their construction dates: farmhouse number 15 dates from the mid-19th century, the barn at number 38 from the first half of that century, and farmhouse number 45 from the second half.

A Protestant cemetery from the mid-19th century is another historic trace of the village. The condition of historic buildings in Zieleniewo is not always good. Even so, the different construction dates and building types provide concrete reference points for understanding local history, without conflating the park, cemetery and residential or farm buildings.

The wider Kołobrzeg destination, within the Gmina Kołobrzeg, brings together coastal dunes, peat bogs, pine forests, meadows, salt marshes and river valleys. More than 700 species of vascular plants have been recorded there, including many protected species. This is a different focus from the historic traces in Zieleniewo.

Three Nordic walking routes in Dźwirzyno and Grzybowo run along the beaches and through the coastal forest; they vary in difficulty. These routes offer a specific choice of activity within the wider Kołobrzeg destination, but they do not imply a route from Zieleniewo.
