Nature

The Cheile Întregalde are a 130-hectare protected area in the upper reaches of the Valea Gălzii, encompassing elevations from 500 to 1,139 meters. Their landscape is characterized by limestone cliffs, sharp ridges, and towers that provide a habitat for rare plants such as edelweiss. Edelweiss grows in the Cheile Întregalde between 500 and 800 meters; this altitude is described as the lowest at which the species grows in Romania.

Another distinctive landscape feature is Piatra Cetii. The isolated limestone ridge lies in the western Trascău Mountains between the valleys of the Cetea and Galda streams. Jagged ridges, rock faces, rocky peaks, and rocky gullies shape its appearance. Piatra Cetii provides a habitat for rare, endemic, or protected plants, including orchids, irises, and edelweiss.

The Poienile cu Narcise de la Tecșești are a two-hectare botanical protected area of national interest in IUCN Category IV. They lie at an altitude of approximately 950 meters near the Piatra Cetii massif and belong to the village of Tecșești in the commune of Întregalde. The plants mentioned in connection with the Poienile cu Narcise de la Tecșești include Narcissus stellaris, locally also called “rușculiță”.

Cave and Trails

The Peștera Bisericuța is 320 meters long. Archaeological excavations there uncovered traces of human presence dating back to the Neolithic. The cave contains stalagmites, stalactites, columns, and moonmilk formations. In the Middle Ages, it served as a refuge for the shepherds of Ciumerna; in times of hardship, it was also used as a church.

The Peștera Bisericuța can be reached via Road 107K from Întregalde toward Necrilești, followed by a forest road to Sfârcea and an unmarked footpath. Access to the Poienile cu Narcise de la Tecșești is via the DN1 and DJ104K, followed by a forest road and a footpath to the protected area.

The Cheile Găldiței and Cheile Turcului lie within the commune of Întregalde and are traversed by the DJ106H, which connects Întregalde with Necrilești. The road from Întregalde passes through the Cheile Găldiței; the Cheile Turcului can be reached via the right-bank tributary Pârâul Turcului. The Cheile Găldiței also contain an area for sport climbing.
