The Muzeul Sătesc din Galeș was founded on 17 October 1976 by the teaching staff of the village school. Visitors can discover historical photographs and information about the village church and village school, the Corul Țăranilor din Galeș, the area's natural resources and, in particular, the extremely rare asprete fish in the waters of the Vâlsan. The building of the Muzeul Etnografic al Satului Galeș follows the tradition of mountain houses: its foundation consists of river stones, the walls are made of beams and the roof of shingles. In the courtyard of the Muzeul Satului Galeș, a stone monument with an eagle has stood since 1938, dedicated to the residents of Galeș who fell in the First World War.

Church and Customs

An Orthodox parish church in Galeșu bears the name Biserica „Sf. Împărați Constantin și Elena“. It was first built of stone in 1877. After being struck by lightning for the third time on 3 July 1978, it was rebuilt and consecrated again in summer 1980. Casa lui Palalogelu is considered the oldest building in the village of Galeș. In 2010, the house was moved to the church courtyard and converted into a small museum housing part of Galeș's history.

Every year on Easter Sunday, the „Masa Împăcării“ takes place in the courtyard of Galeș village church. Traditionally, it includes sarmale, ciorbă, tocană, bureți, cozonac and red wine or Țuică; the food is served in earthenware bowls with wooden spoons. The folklore group „Datina Păstorilor“ from Galeș, formerly known as „Murmurul Vâlsanului“, presents the singing, dancing and traditional peasant costume typical of Galeș every year at organised folklore events such as festivals and competitions.
