Culture and History

Auşeu combines several villages with distinct cultural heritage. In the village of Gheghie stands the wooden church dedicated to the „Sfinţii Apostoli Petru şi Pavel“; it dates from the early 18th century. The Zichy hunting lodge, dating from 1860, is also located in Gheghie.

The Casa memorială din Auşeu houses a collection of more than 2,000 old objects, including some considered unique. In the village of Luncşoara stands the wooden church „Sfântul Gheorghe“. It was built in 1760 by the craftsman Lup Ioan and features interior paintings from the 19th century. Thus, architectural history, personal remembrance culture, and ecclesiastical interior decoration exist side by side in the locations mentioned.

In the wider regional surroundings of Auşeu lies Ruinele Cetăţii, a historic site. The churches Biserica Naşterea Maicii Domnului, Biserica Sfinţii Arhangheli, and Biserica Sfântul Nicolae are also located there. The Ruta Bisericilor de Lemn din Bihor leads from Oradea to the wooden church in Gheghie in the municipality of AuÅŸeu. The route connection thus links a starting point outside the municipality with a specific wooden building within AuÅŸeu.
